Description
I received a CPU/motherboard/RAM/PSU bundle from a part exchange. The previous owner said it had stopped working so I only paid £15 for it. Upon closer inspection it became clear that one of the memory channels had stopped working on the motherboard and the odd 12GB config the previous owner had installed was not compatible with the issue. I had another Corsair DDR4 RAM stick on hand so managed to get 16GB running in single channel fairly cheaply.
The PC was tested for several days to ensure no issues were present and it passed with no problems whatsoever.
The build was tied together with some great eBay finds and a Hyper 212 cooler that I had from another part exchange.
The case is an interesting one, it isn't (or wasn't at the time of building) on PC Part Picker, so it was a lucky find on Amazon of all places. It is pretty good for what it is; lots of fans and colours, decent airflow, and plenty of space to build in to.
Overall, a great entry-level gaming PC for the price, just not much scope for upgrade.
It sold for £220.
Part Reviews
CPU
Adequate for a lower spec build or workstation but really is held back by the four threads in a gaming machine. Has scope to be upgraded to a 6700 or 7700, the only redeeming feature of this placeholder CPU.
CPU Cooler
The most common tower cooler in the world for a reason.
Motherboard
Great for a B250 motherboard. Lots of nice features, two M.2 slots, and an appealing look.
Loses a star for the sparse amount of rear USB ports though.
Storage
I've been impressed with Silicon Power. Not a hugely well known brand in the UK but everything I've used by them has been solid.
Video Card
The old blower card. Good enough, and does a good job of sucking in air and blowing it out the back of the case. The card gets a bit toasty but that is the nature of the beast.
