Description

i posted this once, but i made a few changes, fixed the fan and i will be installing 2 more fans once my 2 y splitters arrive. thanks!

Edit: The "four fans" were actually a pack of fans so i got 4 fans for 16.00 off newegg. i didn't correct this but technically i didnt spend 13.00 for each fan, 13.00 for a total of 4 fans lol. i'll fix.

TO ANYONE SAYING THE COOLER MOUNTING IS INCORRECT PLEASE SEE THIS http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=presse_archiv&step=2&news_id=54&lng=es

I don't have the kit.

what did you do to fix the fan? imo it's still mounted wrong... sucking hot air from the GPU in and exhausting to the top which is closed...?

^ my first thought at this build

there is a fan slot up there. This positioning is probably better than exhausting out the back.

there is, but it's not used and with the fractal it means it's closed off entirly with sound dampening foam.

good point. solution, cut hole in top of case.

i also removed the sound dampening foam and added 2 exhaust fans at the top.

With the two fans up top it will definitely cool better exhausting upwards. Coolers work better mounted vertically provided air flow isn't impeded.

Thanks, I asked for the upgrade kit, but since it's free, would you recommend keeping it as is since i have 2 exhaust fans or would you recommend changing the orientation once i can upgrade?

Coolers work better when they push heat up (only 10% of people do this) and you'll also get a boost to GPU cooling. There is absolutely no benefit to reorienting your cooler.

Old cases had no top vents so you were forced to exhaust out the back.

well maybe everyone confused the **** out of me, but hot air rises so either way hot air is going to be rising towards the cpu general area. yes the top vent is closed for now for the quiet aspect but i will be adding an exhaust fan directly above the cpu cooler. right now my temps @4.2ghz do not exceed 50c in CS:GO so i don't see much to complain about.

Do whatever you like but it's supposed to be sucking cool air through the heatsink ( so fan on the right intake) and then exhaust the warm air out (exhaust left fan) and best scenario the hot air directly out of the case (rear exhaust).

ryanbas21

i set this up knowing I will add an exhaust fan to the top of the case because i figured having 2 exhausts (one rear and one on top) would allow for the best airflow as I will have an intake fan on the bottom of the case, the hd fans intaking and the top 2 exhausting and even a third exhausting if it isn't too loud. I understand the idea behind sucking cool air thru the heatsink, but wouldn't the airflow be all backwards if i were sucking air from the top exhausting hot air down back to the middle of the case ontop of the graphics card which would then be making the hot air rise again to the top of the case?

i'll try to be clearer so i'll type the actual mount in caps so you might finally understand.

PUT THE INTAKE FAN ON THE RIGHT SIDE AND THE EXHAUST FAN ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE COOLER.

then there won't be any fan pointing at the GPU whatsoever.

Okay, So i literally just removed the entire heatsink to inspect why i would not have originally set it up that way, and maybe i'm full ****** but the mounting brackets, the ones that are attatched to the backside of my motherboard that i then attatch the heatsink onto cannot reach the holes for me to put the heatsink the way you are describing. I found this odd because other builds with this cooler are set up the way you are describing.

Anyways I understand your point but I cannot see how i can orientate the cooler that way without longer brackets.

This isn't a big deal though, with the exhaust fans on top i do not hit 50c in prime95 so I will leave it as is. I guess somewhere in the installation i messed up, i guess with the backside but i think it's time to stop messing with it since it's cooling plenty for what i have it clocked for.

Thanks.

So i did more research, i'm not sure if you will see this BUT it is not possible to align this fan on amd sockets unless i get the upgrade kit. http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=presse_archiv&step=2&news_id=54&lng=es

so i was not incorrect on my installation and although these comments drove me crazy i can rest assure that i was not wrong that i couldnt do the mount as you suggested with what i was given. Unless you believe there will be a significant increase in cooling, i don't think i will upgrade. thanks.

$1300 spent and only a 7790??

Grazzert
  • 11 years 2 months ago

well only 900 of it was actually the computer

That's what I'm saying, I think they spent too much oin the keyboard/mouse and headset, and should have got better hardware and got the rest later.

JohnTsams
  • 11 years 2 months ago

Its not 1300$...

comptech0408

$1292.05?

You can't count the keyboard, mouse and monitor when you're doing a price spread of CPU/Mobo/GPU/RAM/HDD gaming PCs tend to be 25-35% GPU in terms of cost.

I meant it seems they had $1300 to spend, but should have paid less for the keyboard, mouse, and headphones, and put that money towards better hardware. You can get a better keyboard, mouse, and headphones anytime.

The g15 keyboard i got for 45$ the Siberia headset(not pictured) i got for $30. The SSD above was the closest I found but mine is actually a refurbished one for 60$ and is 90gb. A 7790 is all i need really. I did go overbudget though.

How much FPS do you get in games with the GPU?

ryanbas21
  • 11 years 2 months ago

I play counter strike go at 1920 x 1080 everything high and i cap my fps at 200. im usualy at 160-200 i think. more than enough for what im doing.

Nice build +1, what model/brand computer desk is that? Thanks.

i'll triple check but i'm almost positive the only thing i can to change the orientation fo the fans is a 180, otherwise i would have set it up to have it blow out the rear exhaust. i am going to add a exhaust to the top and remove the sound padding material.

Thanks, I will be adding a exhaust fan, maybe two to the top of the case.
